This old house…and yes its true it’s a little on the older side and part of the reason we are planning to move but not the only reason. We picked this house originally for its size and location within the school district we wanted. We have no issues with the first school but by the time high school rooms around we will and its easier to move now rather than wait until later.
We do have a love for the place but we are in the same slump that most home owners face. Is it worth it in this economy to fix it the way we want, hoping it will resell without a lost of value within this housing market or set it up as a straight rental? I line of like the idea of being a slumlord, I mean landlord. Gosh, where are my manners? Not all renters are slums but it is a fun word, isn’t it? Kind of like anthropomorphism.
If we make the changes to this place at least those last sketched out it will include a full re-do of both bathrooms, an entire kitchen reset, adjustments to the room we call a large office (bedroom four) and minor work in most of the other rooms. Full paint within all rooms, oh the joy of a three-month long project but hell no I am not painting anymore at least on walls that is. I almost forgot the weekend we will spend in a hotel when they redo the plumbing. The only question is, will it be worth it? To us, yes but for how long? We do adore this old house but in the end we want to make sure it does not kill us either.
I love the idea of fixing up this place but looking into resell value & the possible chance of living here longer than expected well that is something weighing on everyone’s mind. The option to move if we do is buying a new house, specifically a house built to our specifications. Who in the right mind would not love that?
Trying to find what you both love in a house; oh that will be left for another day…its a long battle, tedious as it is something left for another day indeed.
